Revive our Gulf

Pretty proud to be helping with this project. A little bit of coms strategy and photography but mostly branding, visualisation and web work so far.

Revive our Gulf
Without the filtering power of mussel reefs the waters of the Hauraki Gulf have become murkier and more vulnerable to the effects of inappropriate/poorly managed land.

Invisible Nests

It took me so long to find this one. So far none of the chicks have survived. All signs point to Pukekeko killing them. An OSNZ member even saw it happen when they did the census in the paddock.

Dotterel Chick

Dotterel Chick

I now have two nests that have hatched in the paddock. This chick is 3 weeks old, locals including the Tamaki Model Airplane Club have been incredibly supportive.

Signage

DOG-EATING BIRDS. I thought this sign might be a fun way to get dog owners to keep their dogs out of the paddock. Great feedback so far.

Here is the print file if anyone want to modify/ use it. I simplified the text so it’s applicable to more situations. I have also deployed these in Albany.

Eggs!

I can not believe the Dotterel are nesting in the grass at Pt England. I found two nests that I need to get fenced ASAP to stop the cattle from trampling on them.

I dont need to look after these one tho. Pukekos defend their nests and young vigorously, they also lay communally so these are cousins, not brothers and sisters.

I have put three bait stations in at Pt England. Hopefully I get more from council.

House Above the Sea

House Above the Sea
The House Above the Sea

My Grandmother found a book of my Grandfathers ‘The House Above the Sea’ by Ronald Lockley. Lockley was a keen environmentalist and lived just down the road from me in Glendowie. I haven’t found a book worth my full attention in years and I devoured it in a few days. His observations of my local flora & fauna are both insightful and moving. I have never read a book before where I actually know the characters, not just the birds and bugs, but the places, organisations and even the odd person! Somehow the book was even more special wondering what my Grandfather (who was quite the adventurer) thought of his rambling observations. My next walk through Tahuna Torea will be with wiser eyes.
